Confirmation.com is an electronic audit confirmation platform for requesting and receiving confirmations from banks, legal counsel, accounts receivable respondents, and other third parties during audit engagements, replacing the paper-based process.
Audit teams use it to send and track confirmations digitally, with two distinct benefits. The first is practical: response times shorten from weeks to days, and response rates improve, which matters because outstanding confirmations frequently hold up completion.
The second is evidential. Confirmations are a recognised fraud risk point — where a client controls the mailing address and the return path, responses can be intercepted or fabricated. Routing requests through an independent platform removes the client from that path, which is what regulators and inspection teams look for when assessing confirmation controls.
Requests are sent to registered responding organisations, which validate the requesting auditor’s identity before releasing information. Responses return directly to the audit team with a complete digital audit trail recording who requested what and when it was answered.
Confirmation types cover bank balances and loan positions, legal letters, accounts receivable, and other third-party arrangements. Status tracking shows which requests are outstanding across an engagement, so follow-up is systematic rather than dependent on someone remembering.
Integration with the main engagement platforms allows responses to attach to the audit file directly.
Any firm performing financial statement audits requiring third-party confirmation — bank, legal, and receivable confirmations being the most common. It is effectively the standard approach in audit practice rather than a differentiated choice.
Firms doing only compilations, reviews without confirmation procedures, or non-assurance work have no need for it. It complements rather than replaces engagement platforms such as CaseWare, which manage the working papers the confirmations support.
