Dext Commerce is an e-commerce bookkeeping tool that extracts transaction-level data from sales platforms, categorises it, and syncs it into QuickBooks Online or Xero. It sits alongside the core document capture product in the Dext range.
The problem it solves is reconciling online sales to platform payouts. A marketplace deposits a net figure covering hundreds of sales less commission, advertising fees, refunds, chargebacks, and tax that may have been collected by the marketplace rather than the seller. Reconstructing revenue from that deposit manually is slow and error-prone, and it is the single largest bookkeeping cost for e-commerce clients.
Firms use the tool to pull the underlying transactions rather than the summary, so revenue, fees, refunds, and tax post separately and the payout reconciles by construction. For clients selling across several channels this compounds, since each platform reports differently.
Connections cover the major marketplaces and payment processors, with transaction-level extraction including per-sale tax detail and jurisdiction. Fee types are separated rather than netted, so commission, fulfilment, and advertising costs land in their own accounts.
Categorisation rules can be set per channel and product type, and refunds and chargebacks are matched to original sales rather than posted as unexplained debits.
Output syncs to Xero and QuickBooks Online at the level of detail the firm configures, from individual transactions to daily summaries.
Firms with e-commerce clients selling across multiple channels, or single-channel clients with enough volume and tax complexity that summary posting is inadequate.
Clients on one platform with straightforward domestic tax are often served well enough by the accounting platform’s native integration. Firms needing supplier invoice capture rather than sales data should look at Dext, AutoEntry, or Datamolino instead.
